Our Farming

Our farming is predominantly arable and grassland for haymaking, we do however let some grassland for winter grazing of sheep. We farm on a number of different sites with differing soil and climatic conditions, from heavy clay, to light, droughty, sandy soils and flinty chalky soils on the top of the downs. Our farming practices have to adapt to suit the conditions. We grow a range of crops, winter wheat, winter barley, Oilseed rape, winter oats, spring linseed and maize. Wherever possible, we try to put as much organic matter back into our soils as possible.

We rotationally apply Farm yard manure, horse manure and organic compost. our grassland is a very important part of our business. We have a range of types of leys which we manage sustainably to achieve the best output, from natural, riverside meadows, managed organically, to high output, short term leys, managed to achieve high yields and efficiency. We embrace new technology and constantly seek to improve our techniques and husbandry to meet the challenges of the modern farming industry.
